How to track rent payments (without the spreadsheet stress)

Late or missed rent is easier to fix when you spot it early. Here's a simple system that works for one property or a hundred.

1. Record what's due each month

Set up each tenancy with the rent amount and due day so every month has a clear expected payment.

2. Match payments from your bank

Check your bank statement against what's due. Look out for part-payments and joint tenants paying separately.

3. Act quickly on arrears

A polite reminder a few days after the due date resolves most late payments. Keep a record of every reminder you send.

4. Keep it tax-ready

Note commission, fees and expenses against each property so your year-end figures are ready for Self Assessment.
